An unexpected burst of early October sunshine was a welcome sight for those taking part in the 1020 Autumn Road Run – especially those hardy members who braved morning showers to bring out their classic MGs.
Not long after leaving Hamworthy Sports Club at the start of the 37 mile road route (devised as ever by George Parrott who was there to see everyone off in his trusty MGB V8) the skies cleared and participants were treated to the sight of some of Dorset lesser travelled byways in glorious sunshine.
The route initially headed into Wimborne and then through Tarrant Keynston before traversing the Georgian market town of Blandford and heading out into the Winterbornes using some extremely narrow, but thankfully relatively traffic free, country lanes.
Cars eventually travelled down the picturesque manufactured village of Milton Abbas (sadly these days the thatched cottages surrounded by dozens of parked cars) before passing the Langham Vineyard (which the club toured a few years ago) then towards Athelhampton and through Tincleton and Moreton before arriving at the world famous Bovington Tank Museum in the heart of the county.

Many chose to use the museum restaurant for lunch, some even brought a picnic and enjoyed the unseasonal sunshine while other deviated off for a pub lunch before heading home.
