A balmy summer’s evening provided the perfect conditions for 1020’s annual Pride of Ownership night at Hamworthy Sports Club and the sunshine brought out MGs in all their glory.
Hours of washing and polishing were evident as the colourful array of chrome glistening classics gathered in the car park to be admired by fellow club members and members of the public alike.
The relaxed informal evening provided the perfect opportunity to swap stories about MGs and for club members to seek advice about technical issues on their cars – event sponsor Wayne Healey (who arrived on his classic scooter) was also in demand to advise on car valeting techniques and products.
The diverse array of machinery on display ranged from the ever present MGBs and Midgets to a selection of V8s and an MGA – there was even a rare appearance from former club area secretary Nigel Hedges.
When it came to voting for people’s favourite car there was a three-way tie for second place between
Tony and Sue Cheney with their MGB Roadster, Kim Archer and her MGB V8 Costello and Ian Evans in his MGA hard top coupe. But ahead of them all by several votes were first-time new members Jonathan and Marie Davies from Poole with their eye-catching 1953 MGTD.
Obviously both shocked and delighted the couple were presented with their Pride of Ownership tankard and a goodie bag of car cleaning products by Wayne Healey.
