Summer Run & Treasure Hunt

Our Summer Road Run lived up to its title with clear blue skies and thermometer rising temperatures with just enough breeze to keep those in roadsters cool as they tackled the 45-mile cross-country route set by Adrian Mullins.

A total of 24 cars ranging from a TA, MG4, MGF, ZS, RV8 and MGA to a diverse selection of MGBs, and MGCs set off to complete the journey from Hamworthy Sports Club to Damerham Village Hall; several other club members made their own way to the finish point in a variety of vehicles. There was universal praise for the picturesque route which took the cars north and west into Dorset before turning east into Wiltshire (with views of the Fovant regimental badges) and Hampshire passing several quaint villages and discovering little used country lanes.

To make the journey even more interesting Adrian had set 32 fiendish questions based on locations on the route from house and village names to pubs and bridges.

Winners of the Treasure Hunt were Ian and Sue Hanstead in their MGRV8, although they admitted that they had a slight advantage as the route took them past their own house and locations they see everyday. There received their Mg goodie bag from Adrian – see top.

At the finish everyone tucked into an M&S Picnic (thanks to Wendy Brooks for arranging the sandwiches) masterminded by Ursula Bonner and Pat Lodge.

The facilities at Damerham were excellent and it is certainly a venue we plan to use again in the future.

Our next seasonal road run will be the Autumn outing on Sunday 20 October which will finish with a roast lunch at The Thimble Inn at Piddlehinton – more details elsewhere in this newsletter and on the club website.
