A bumper collection of club cars, no less than 37 in total, took part in the 1020 Autumn Road Run on Sunday 17 October.
This was one of the best supported seasonal runs we have organised in recent years and was rewarded by some perfect driving conditions as participants travelled the relatively short distance from Hamworthy Club to historic Shillington Station on the former Somerset and Dorset railway.

More than a dozen people started the day with a carvery lunch before being joined by fellow members for the start of the brief by scenery packed 32 mile road route which had been devised by George Parrott.
There was universal praise for the route which first headed west to Lytchett Matravers and then through Winterborne Kingston and picturesque Milton Abbas before traversing Bulbarrow and Tunworth leading to prior fabulous views coming down the hill into Okeford Fitzpaine and arriving at Shillingstone Station.
Everyone made it to the destination although John and Val Roantree were delayed having to change a condenser on their J2. This made for an impressive display of MGs, dominated as usual by ranks of MGBs supported by a couple of TDs an occasional MGF and TF and a few interlopers from other British marques.
Early arrivals headed off for the cream tea in the railway carriage while others had time to visit the shop and museum or take a guided tour of the signal box where there was the opportunity to pull a few levers and operate the signals – sadly with no actual trains on the line.
Volunteers at the station were welcoming and friendly and there was nothing but praise for the organisation of the day – all we have to do is repeat this formula on future outings.
