The pristine black MGB GT V8 of Tony Alderton was crowned Car of the Night after a three way tie at the annual Pride of Ownership competition which took place during the first club night gathering since the start of the pandemic.
Despite an inclement weather forecast and some early evening rain the sky gradually turned blue which attracted a large number of members to bring out their classic MGs and enjoy the outdoor social.
Voting by club members for their favourite car resulted in three cars sharing the same number of likes, the MGA of John Roantree, the Midget of David Hindson and the MGB GT V8 of Tony Alderton.
Event sponsor Wayne Healey was called in to make the final decision choosing Tony’s gleaming and much loved V8 – afterwards Tony admitted that he had only just driven it out of his garage on the night and had made no special preparations so was very surprised to win.
He received the perpetual tankard and a selection of car care products from Wayne.
Indoors there was a fierce battle in the Scalextric Challenge where all the entrants were covered by six laps in their allotted time. Top scorer was Ian Hanstead who managed 23 laps just one head of Brian Speight and Graham Lowe.
