Our guest speaker this evening was Chris Piercy and his presentation was “The Fastest Steam Car in the World” Chris started off with a brief verbal introduction to the program, following this with a DVD which some more of the background, building and record breaking attempts which took place on Edwards Air Force Base in the Mojave desert. The record had stood at 127.659 mph since 1906 and was finally broken by the team with an average speed of 139.843 mph for the mile and 148.308 mph for the kilometre. Following the DVD, Chris completed his talk with a resume of his involvement in the team effort. Chris provided the club with a limited edition scale model of the steam car which was raffled, raising £61 for our charity fund. The winner of the raffle for the model was Angela Robertson.
