The predictions for gale force winds and rain from hurricane Bertha never arrived at Athelhampton on Sunday 10th August and our big day went ahead. The early morning rain did deter many from setting out and numbers of participants were down on previous years. However those who did attend were rewarded with another fun and relaxing day at this beautiful Elizabethan manor house. All of our usual entertainments were up and running and the now traditional duck race on the River Piddle was won by the duck purchased by Felicity Gee. Name the dog competition was won by Anna Thomas. The line up of cars on the front and rear lawns spanned nearly 80 years of MG production and included a now rare MG Maestro. Todays MG line up was represented by Purbeck MG with both MG3 and MG6 examples on show, together with an MG3 demonstrator for potential purchasers to try out. The ‘Furthest Travelled’ award went to the MGB belonging to Cor and Annet Evegaars from Schyndal in Holland and the ‘Car of the Day’, chosen by Regional Secretary Nigel Knowles, went to the supercharged SV of 1020 member Bill Rockstro.
