Our speaker this evening, Kevin Patience, entertained us with the true story of The African Queen.The story started during the first world war, the 1935 novel by C.S.Forrester followed and the very well known film starring Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn was developed from that book. Kevin described many of the naval actions undertaken during that period, in German East Africa and his talk was illustrated with photographs and maps of the area surrounding Lake Tanganyika, where most of the action took place. This area is now known as Burundi, Rwanda and Tanganyika, the mainland part of Tanzania.
