Stansted Park House Sunday 19th May

14 cars from 1020 met at Rownhams services, on the M27, before proceeding in convoy to Stansted Park near Rowlands Castle. On arrival we were directed to the centre of the car park, in front of the house, where we parked as a group. We were told that we were the largest visiting club attendance that day. Stansted Park is a lovely setting for a car rally, with plenty to see and do, set in 1700 acres of parkland. A visit to the house, which was for many years the seat of the Earls of Bessborough, is well worth while. The tour around the huge kitchens and staff quarters was most revealing. Since 1983 the House and Estate have been owned by Stansted Park Foundation, a charitable trust charged with the preservation of the estate for the benefit of the nation. This was the wish of the last owner, Frederick, 10th Earl of Bessborough. This event, very well organised by Solent MGOC (1003), was most enjoyable and will definitely go in the diary for a repeat visit next year.
