I think Home Counties South is the most active Region in the MGOC but I suppose other “Reggies” may wish to argue with that…..
I’ve been Regional Secretary for Region 10 for over ten years now I’m happy to think I helped to start 1022 and 1023 , Winchester and Newbury MGOCs , two clubs that are thriving and contributing so much to the success of Region 10. I was able also to encourage Andy Harris to take the reins of 1006 , Chichester MGOC , another active and inter-active club which Hosts one of our main ‘Regional Gatherings ‘ at Arundel Castle each year.
Winchester MGOC stage our season’s curtain raiser at the IBM Sportsclub at Hursley each March ( this year 5th March 2006 ) whilst 1006’s Arundel Castle Regional Gathering is on Sunday 9th April.
Epsom MGOC ( 1016 ) are the stuff of legend and many years ago , Roche Bentley said to me , “just sit back and admire” which I continue to do !
West Sussex MGOC stage the fantastic South Downs Run , a classic fixture in the MGOC calendar and their meeting venue at the Art Deco Shoreham Airport is well worth a visit to say “Hello” to 1013.
Southampton & New Forest MGOC ( 1009 ) stage their famous New Forest Run each year which gains support from every MGOC in Region 10 and beyond. They are 1020’s closest neighbours and keenest challengers down through the decades !
Durnovaria ( Dorchester ) MGOC ( 1008 ) are another club I was able to encourage to restart and are now in the most capable hands of Hilary Storey and again as 1020’s closest westerly neighbours see them supporting and sharing so many dates throughout the season.
Sarum ( Salisbury ) MGOC ( 1012 ) again I was able to encourage to restart and present encumbant Nigel Knowles continues the great work of Becky and Graham who preceded him.
Solent MGOC ( 1003 ) were taken to new heights by Hugh Smith and continue to expand and improve with Valerie Bidewell as Area Secretary , ably assisted by her husband Vaughan.
Runnymede MGOC ( 1007 ) and East Surrey MGOC ( 1015 ) are active clubs with a full programme of events and are regularly seen supporting other Region 10 MGOC events. Certainly 1022 and 1003 send many contingents of MGs to France each and every year.
Reading MGOC ( 1017 ) sent four cars to Athelhampton in 2005 and Basingstoke MGOC
( 1014 ) will hopefully be able to welcome region to the Milestones Museum for our Region’s second visit there some time later in 2006.
Harrow Area ( “1010” ) is still dormant alas but if Steve Broad had continued running it then I would only be the second longest serving Area Secretary in the MGOC……
Hopefully , this site will grow and grow with contributions , news and views from Home Counties South’s most capable and active Area Secretaries.
Oh yes , and don’t miss Athelhampton House MG Regional Gathering on Sunday 6th August with a World War II Period Dress theme and a Glenn Miller Swing Band new for 2006 !
Over to YOU…….
